Marked - The Feast of the Animals
Esta ceremonia se celebra en muchas comunidades andinas para reafirmar el vínculo entre las familias pastoras y sus llamas, ovejas u otros animales, así como encomendar a la tierra su cuidado y agradecer por lo que provee. En esta celebración se marca al ganado, pero no es su única finalidad, es una forma de integrar a los animales a la familia y a la comunidad de la que forman parte. Las lanas de colores con las que se viste a las llamas, el chumpe, son un regalo confeccionado con el mismo amor y cuidado que se dedica a los hijos.
La Puna tanto tiene para enseñar… entre otras cosas, cómo vincularse con otros seres que habitan este mundo con más ternura y respeto.
This ceremony is celebrated in many Andean communities to reaffirm the bond between herding families and their llamas, sheep, or other animals, as well as to entrust their care to the land and give thanks for all it provides.
Although livestock are marked during the celebration, that is not its only purpose—it is a way of integrating the animals into the family and the broader community to which they belong.
The colorful wool adornments used to dress the llamas, called chumpe, are gifts crafted with the same love and care that is given to one’s children.
The Puna has so much to teach… among other things, how to relate to other beings who inhabit this world with greater tenderness and respect.
